Surah Fatir Ayat 19-20-21 Translation Tafseer

Para 22 - وَ مَنْ یَّقْنُتْ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

35.19-20-21

وَ مَا یَسْتَوِی الْاَعْمٰى وَ الْبَصِیْرُۙ (19) وَ لَا الظُّلُمٰتُ وَ لَا النُّوْرُۙۙ (20) وَ لَا الظِّلُّ وَ لَا الْحَرُوْرُۚ (21)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

The blind and the sighted are not equal. [1] Nor are darkness and light. [1] And nor are shade and scorching heat. [1]

Commentary

Using the analogy of someone who can see and a blind person, Allah Almighty has mentioned the difference between a believer and a disbeliever in this verse. Just as the blind person and the sighted are not the same, so too is the case with a disbeliever and a believer.

Here, Allah Almighty has mentioned the difference between the attributes of a disbeliever and a believer. Just as darkness and light are not the same, disbelief and faith are opposing states too.

In this verse, Allah Almighty has differentiated between the home of a disbeliever and a believer on the Day of Judgement. The abode of the believer, Paradise, is like shade while the abode of the disbeliever, Hell, is like scorching heat. These two are not the same. Some exegetes have said that “shade” refers to the truth, whereas “scorching heat” refers to falsehood.
